Seward Fishing Hunting Sightseeing

Seward fishing activities begin during the month of April when the temperatures start to rise and the snow starts to melt. Things in this small seaside community start to happen. Fishing hooks get sharpened, the reels get spooled with new line, the bottoms of the boats even get new paint. This is the month when every thing starts. Actually we start fishing even a little earlier!

March - The break up month.  Resurrection bay king salmon trolling starts. The Chinook salmon is the biggest and most beautiful of all the salmon species. With the Alaska state recorded at 98lbs, these salmon do get large.

April -Spring rain, generally the early spring brings rain, which cleans all of winters left overs. This is the month when the mighty pacific halibut shows up on the docks of Seward. The halibut are here year round but tend to go deep in the winter months and come shallower in the warmer months as the smaller feed fish move closer to shore.

May- The snow is gone (almost) and every welcomes warmth in the air. The boats are out fishing on most days. The weather can still be a little difficult on some days because of strong low pressure in the Gulf of Alaska. The more we move toward summer the better the weather will get.
June - Summer is here, Halibut and king salmon are being landed daily now. The weather is great, there is plenty of warmth in the sun and on the 22nd of this month there will be enough light to fish around the clock.

July - Scorching heat, at least from an Alaskan point of view, halibut fishing is in full swing and the Coho salmon start showing up in increasing numbers. Ling cod season opens on the 1st of July so prepare to fight. These fish are big and beautiful-ugly and fight great. The rockfish are feeding in full swing as well.

August – Heat and great fishing, Coho salmon are going full tilt at this time of summer, the halibut fishing is great, the ling cod are eating the rock fish as snacks. All lines are tight and the rods are bent.

September - The end is near, It's now a little cooler and a little more rain, not as much light any more but the fishing is still great. Halibut, ling cod and rock fish are just waiting to strike just about any thing you throw at them.
